Zircon provenance of Quaternary cover beds using U–Pb dating: Regional differences in the Southwestern USA

چکیده
U–Pb dating of detrital zircons (DZ) in Quaternary slope deposits (cover beds) and examination the surface structure single zircon grains may enable reconstruction provenance their aeolian components help to reconstruct sedimentary palaeo-transportation cascades. We distinguish several layers using a palaeosol-supported sequence-stratigraphic approach. In pilot study, we demonstrate usability end-member-modelled analyses grain sizes identify matter, multi-dimensional scaling density functions (probability (PDF) Kernel estimations (KDE)) data, morphology DZ, show that age appearance variation DZ Great Basin differ remarkably from those Colorado Plateau. All samples contain matter. Density ages similarities within each two regions. The are dominated by late Cretaceous Paleogene zircons, which assumed derive volcanism. contrast, Plateau almost free these contributions. Presumably, difference is due palaeolakes, were frequent only, whose sediments similar spectrum ages. Zircon indicates most have history transportation, whereas be volcanic origin often do not transportation marks; this was eruptive process but fewer steps cascade. Multidimensional data defines clusters with – compared published possible sources allows first interpretations provenance. been studied in, applied mix methods has to, southwestern USA before. feasibility for study area.

Dating of Precambrian Metasedimentary Rocks and Timing of their Metamorphism in the Soursat Metamorphic Complex (NW IRAN): Using LA–ICP-MS, U–Pb Dating of Zircon and Monazite
Soursat Metamorphic Complex (SMC) in west of Takab city is one of the polyphase metamorphic terrenes in northern Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The SMC composed mainly of metasedimentary rocks associated with granitic intrusions. Based on metamorphic rocks, two metamorphic phases could be separate in the complex. M1 is representative of regional metamorphisms which varies from greens...
متن کاملRock varnish microlamination dating of late Quaternary geomorphic features in the drylands of western USA
Varnish microlamination (VML) dating is a correlative age determination technique that can be used to date and correlate various geomorphic features in deserts. In this study, we establish a generalized late Quaternary (i.e., 0–300 ka) varnish layering sequence for the drylands of western USA and tentatively correlate it with the SPECMAP oxygen isotope record. We then use this climatically corr...
متن کاملU-Pb Zircon and Titanite Dating in Support of British Columbia Geological Survey Regional Mapping Studies
In this paper we report U-Pb zircon and titanite data and interpreted ages for sixteen rocks (Figure 1) sampled in support of regional mapping projects conducted by the British Columbia Geological Survey Branch during the midto late-1990s. Each sample is reported with geological context, interpretation of U-Pb data and significance of the date. The U-Pb results are also displayed on standard co...

East-derived sandstones contain a 23 suite of zircons with a mean age of ca 487 Ma that suggests derivation fr...

An accuracy assessment of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) vegetation continuous field (VCF) tree cover product using two independent ground-based tree cover databases was conducted. Ground data included 1176 Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) plots for Arizona and 2778 Southwest Regional GAP (SWReGAP) plots for Utah and western Colorado. Overall rms. error was 24% for...
